You may need to sit the Generic Module and the PI module as your licence has expired and therfore any application you make would be treated as a new application. You could contact us on 0871 7897860 for a one to one with one of our expert advisors.

You should use the online application checker and do a search on your personal details (name, date of birth) and this should show you your application number

Do I need to send all documents again?

When renewing your licence the SIA states "When you send us your application form you may also need to send your supporting documents. However, if you have previously submitted one of the photographic group A documents to us (i.e. not a birth certiticate or adoption certificate) in support of a licence application that was successful, you do not need to re-send any documents unless your name or address have changed." If your name has changed since the last time you applied or you did not previously submit a photographic group A document you will need to submit a new, complete set of identity documents. If your address has changed since your last application you will need to send one group B document showing your new address even if you have already informed us of this change.

You should apply for your new licence up to four months prior to its expiry date. The cost is £245, the licence would be valid for a further 3 years. If your licence has already expired any "renewal" would be treated as a fresh application and in the case of a Door Supervisor you would need to show that you have completed all aspects of the DS course including physical intervention. Hi my sia licence expired on 2006 would I have to resit exams or ?

If you are licensed as a door supervisor then yes you would need to sit the new modules (PI) and generic module, for other SIA licences you should be able to apply for a new badge. Should you have had any changes of circumstances since your badge expired you would have a legal ressponsibility to disclose these to the SIA. my d/s licence is up for renewal on may 5th, i will not have the money to renew it untill the end of april. If i have not recieved my new licence by the expiry date of my old one can i still work as long as i have paid for it? And how much does it cost? I have also changed address will that be a problem?

You must apply to renew your licence before it expires. If you can prove that your application is bieng processed it is my understanding that you could continue to work however in questions of this nature it is always best to contact the SIA direct Click Here

do i need countersignatory

All applications made to the SIA for alicence need to be countersigned. The countersignatory must hold a UK passport and provide evidence of this. They may also not be a family member.

do i have to have a police check

The SIA will conduct a criminal record check based on your identity before they issue a licence.

As your question is in the renewal section of our FAQ's I will assume you are an existing licence holder. If that is the case part of your licence ressponsibilities is to notify the SIA of any changes of circumstances including convictions. They will then make a decision regarding your licence. Sia check right to work??

The SIA will check that an individual has a right to work in the UK however this does not replace the employers ressponsibility to ensure that an employee has the correct status. Your supporting documents submitted when you apply should satisfy this area.

I worked as a Security Guard for many years and was injured in 2008. I was unable to work, though remained employed by my company. I am due now fit to return to work, but do i have to reapply for my licence? Do I have to retrain?

If your expiry date has passed you will need to re-apply. You will need no further training unless your are becoming a door supervisor.

A licence is only valid for three years at present, so now it is revoked. If you held a Door Supervisors Licence you will be required to complete the new Physical Intervention Course which is assessment based, and sit the new generic unit, which is exam based. For your previous licence you would have sat Roles and Responsibilities and Conflict Management which are still valid. The new system requires all 4. Can I claim for loss of earnings if the magistrate issues me with a licence after the sia revoked a renewal licence?

I am not qualified to answer this I would suggest you seek legal counsel in this matter

You will always need to renew your SIA licence upon expiry in order to continue legally working.

Complete all sections unless the form clearly states you do not need to.

Now the sia have nothing to do with England and Wales who do I send my renewal to?

The SIA are still the regulatory for the UK, therefore your renewal still goes to the SIA.

My license expires on the 31/10/10 do I need to do any course?

There is currently no requirement to do refresher training. I.E. if you have been trained, certified and licensed in Door Supervision previously, you will not need to complete and further training.

Renew licence 9 months before retire, do I have to pay full 3 year term?

Unfortunately you will still have to pay the full fee.

I completed my course in August 2010 then from September new rule came regarding certificate do I need to do certificate again or I can apply direct for badge.

All new door supervisors from September 2010 will need to be certified in the P.I module. Therefore, as you are not renewing your badge, and you did not apply before September you will need to complete additional training.

Can you tell me what is the validity period for the police clearance certificate?

It is not valid for any set period of time, every time you apply or renew your licence a new CRB will be performed.

Can I work while waiting for licence renewal?

If your current licence has expired then you do not currently hold a licence and are not legally allowed to work. However if you have applied for a renewal before your current licence has expired then you still have a valid licence. Always ensure you apply for your renewal before your licence expires, we suggest 3 months before.

For photo ID can I use a travel card if i don't have either a passport or a driving licence?

No you will be breaking the law.

Why is the price to renew the licence the same as buying a new one when a passport don't cost that much?

The price is set by the SIA, we have no control over the cost or their pricing policy. The reason the renewal costs is the same is because you are paying for a licence to work in your chosen field over a set period of time. A licence to perform employment or professional duties rarely attracts a discount for renewals, the cost is set for licensing a certain period of time. The SIA also peform a full background and history check including a CRB.

My license is expired and my home address is changed, on what address I can send it for renewal and where can i get the forms from?

You can request a new form online from the SIA website here. They will send the form out in the mail, you will be able to inform them of your address changes on return of the form.

I want renew my licence, I got the digital British Passport and i'm going on holiday next month. How long will it take to get my back by passport back.

If you hold a digital passport (the one with a microchip near the back) you do not need to send it off with your SIA application. By simply filling in your passport number the SIA can carry out your checks from the UKPA database without having to send it in.

It depends on how serious, and also when? If it is not serious and some time ago I would definately try. Your initial application is likely to get refused, however you can appeal, and they may then change their decision.

When Is The Best Time To Renew?

You should renew your SIA Licence no-more than 4 months prior to your current licence expiring. If you renew within this time frame your renewal licence will continue from the date your current one expires. If you renew prior to the 4 month window your application will be treated as “new” and your licence will start from the date the SIA finalise your application.
